Where Poison Ivy can call home

Approximately half of the surface area of the EDITT Tower will be wrapped in organic local vegetation, and passive architecture will allow for natural ventilation. Publicly accessible ramps will connect upper floors to the street level lined in shops, restaurants and plant life. The building has also been designed for future adaptability.

Facebook

Posted on March 8th, 2008 in Rant by colin

I used to detest Facebook for all its nonsensical time-wasting spamlets that junk up my inbox. And now I’m advocating it. I won’t send out invitations to all of you, but you can invite me to your Facebook. My Facebook email is colin@atomixcomix.com. And if I don’t know you from Adam, just include a blurb like Comic Shop Customer or something. Sorry, I’m quite new to this.

[reader submission] The Police in Singapore Concert Review + Setlist

Posted on February 5th, 2008 in Rant by colin

attached is the setlist of last night’s The Police’s concert in Singapore Indoor Stadium.

impression:

1 it’s a bit loud and can hear that the sound is
compressed, not much crest factor

2 can’t really hear the bass booming at all, i think
those people sitting lower are the lucky ones who can
hear gordon’s bass guitar in all its glory

3 some part of andy summer’s solo felt over the top
but they are AWESOME!!! john petrucci’s still better
though

4 as expected (from youtube video), stewart copeland
is too excited at times and out of rhythm but it’s
still ok (especially when playing king of pain where
he needs to exchange between percussion and drums)

5 gordon can sing, play bass, and smile at the same
time. what a multitasker

6 the rendition of ‘don’t stand so close to me’ and
‘wrapped around your finger’ can be better i think.
this one is unsingable, dedododo dedadada makes up for
it.

7 the crowds don’t respond so well (especially my
block) they sucked. they don’t even clap at times when
asked at times. very passive. not fun at all sitting
with them.

8 favorite song: iirc ‘cant stand losing you’ andy
summer’s solo was just AWESOME!!!

9 thank god my ears are not ringing today, i was
worried it might ring.

10 bringing a pair of binoculars is the best decision
ever.

colin: You and I paid a pittance for our tickets. I’ll bet if we paid premium, we’ll probably be in a much more responsive section of the crowd. The audience was quite dull, I concur. The disappointment was that Sting left out a whole chunk of lyrics from “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”. To a noob like me, I thought all of Summers’ solos were quite out of this world. But then again, I’ve not watched Satriani perform live before. All in all, it was a great concert.

Countup Week One

Posted on February 4th, 2008 in Rant, Shop Events by colin

It’s 1.30 am, Monday morning and I’m still perched behind my Macbook in FESC. I’ve just completed the DWS checklist, added Umbrella Academy issues 5 (on sale now)and 6 (pre-orders only) to the online shop, watched Rob Reiner’s “The Princess Bride” for the umpteenth time, and completed Week One at the new place.

Definite Pluses, as compared to old place:

Clean restrooms here - have you seen the state of the restrooms in Orchard MRT? Swamp Thing wouldn’t have dared venture in there on Sundays! He be borrowing Lex Luthor’s armor for that. He could do it outside, but you know how tough the fines are.

Quelled the Plague of Dumb ☠☠☠☠s - so far… actually beginning to miss them, fodder for the Rant category

Air-con actually works in this place - in fact, even when the management here shuts the air-con off at 9 pm, it still remains relatively cool until around 4 am.

No rumbling and constant feeling that the roof’s gonna give way - peace and quiet here

Wireless@sg is quite fast - back there in the underground, I had M1 broadband going at speeds slower than 9600bps dialup.

Easy access here - no frustration, aggravation, disruption, nor irritation.

7-11 is downstairs

Space, the final frontier - Lots of real estate in the new shop, not as cramped as the old one. In the old place, if you had to get past someone in the aisles, you two gotta be married first.

If you are in the Orchard Road area and would like to visit, there’s only one thing to look out for to see if @omics Comics is open, look for the BIG RED ‘S’ sign.

If it’s lit, @omics Comics is open for business. But if the door’s locked, I’m probably away trying to look for a phone booth or something, just call me.

If it’s not lit, but you sorta see some kinda illumination within the shop, chances are I’m charging th
