Closing

Posted on March 6th, 2008 in Shop Events by colin

Hi,

The better half of my day today I spent calling all the customers who had pull/reservation lists with me. It’s already the end of the day, and I’ve only touched on 20% of the lot of you.

I will be closing this business. Like one long-time customer quipped, I’ll be ending a chapter that took 14 years writing. Although I like this new place I moved into, I wasn’t getting the sort of walk-in business I was getting used to in Orchard MRT. So, this is a good time as any to end this business and look for another career to go into.

As for your reservation lists, I have already negotiated the terms with Bernard from G & B Comics at Bras Basah Complex, and he is agreeable to offering you all the same rates I offered you. IF YOU ARE AGREEABLE TO MOVING YOUR RESERVATION LIST TO G & B COMICS, PLEASE EMAIL ME AS I HAVE TO NOTIFY BERNARD OF THE DETAILS.

My last shipment was last week. So, effective this week, you should be going to G & B for your comics. I hope the transition will be smooth. For those of you who have not picked up your books yet, you can come by and collect the remaining stash from me before end of March. Hopefully, I can get another tenant to take over this lease. Everything in this shop is up for sale, so you want anything, I’m sure I’ll be able to give you a good price.

I thank all of you for your support over the years. I enjoyed your patronage, and as one customer also said, for being his “steady supply of sanity.” I hope you will leave your comments here.

Man that was a depressing call. Can’t believe it’s been almost like 7-8 years going to Atomix man. Still remember the day I chanced on it at Lucky Plaza when it first opened after splitting.

Wow… that is really sad news, man. :(

I’m really sorry to hear that you’re closing, Colin. It’s been a pleasure to patronize your shop these past years. It will be missed.

Best of luck for the future, dude.

I’m gonna miss Atomix Comix lots. Colin, u r one of ‘The Authorities’ on the local comic scene imho.

But I’m glad that you’re going to explore other facets in your life. Time to take on new challenges! Given your many talents and interests, I’m sure you’ll land something just as fascinating.

This is really sad news to hear, it sucks that I’m overseas so I can’t come down to see the store one last time.

I’ve been going to @omix since just about the beginning, to hear you’re closing down is really depressing. I’ll miss patronising your store and seeing you guys around. Buying comics in Singapore won’t be quite the same. :(

Take care dude, all the best for your future endeavours. Best of luck in everything you do. See you when I see you next, keep in touch!

This is very VERY SAD NEWS….

Like what Colin mention, the closing of his shop were mean that my ‘RE-LIVE” Childhood of 5 years will come to an end once again….

From Colin’s shop, I found many joy and lots of memories when I read thu the republish copies of G.I.Joe and its various other sub stories….

    I had the original copies ( 56 till 162 I think…. ) in the late 80s…

But those were lost when a fire destroyed my parent’s house while I was away in school trip then.

Colin, I am sad that things turns out this way…

I wish u all the best in your further endeavours in the near future.

Henry / 5 years of joy thanks to Colin !!

    PS,
U have my support if u come back in future.

    :-)

    hey colin,

ever since i got back from aus. i’ve been trying to find a real good comic store to go to. i mean, i used to go to a store back there that has single issues for 50c!! that was a good 4 years till i came back. when i finally found you, i thought, wow— it’s rather depressing.. i only just found you!! i hate it that work doesn’t even give me enough time to go to you more often and now you’re shutting. have put a big flag in my organiser to come by to your new shop before it goes.

take care and all the best.. :(

    Hey man,

been a tremendous honour being your customer. Only at orchard mrt did i talk to you more, and it’s always been a pleasure. Here’s a big hearty thank you for being there with my comics and recommending some good titles which i would never have found on my own. Also, always admire your take-no-bullshit attitude, heh. Think the most memorable time I’ve spent at your shop was hanging out on the day i cracked my iphone (heh).

Getting that phone call from you that you’re closing, man, that was the worse news i’ve heard in awhile, topping even a cracked screen (this eulogy is turning out to be very iphone-centric). Apart from the comics, you’ve shown me stuff like the coffee, some bitchin’ torchlight, an amazingly good mac deal, and the odd trailer now and then.

I wish you all the best and success in your future endeavours man, and thanks for everything. Keep us posted on what you’ve done, and let’s grab a coffee now and then.

    Darrell (Lim).
PS. i upgraded to 1.1.4 and got some apps.

When I first came to Singapore 10 years ago, the first thing I did was to look for a decent personalized comic book shop.

10 years on, Singapore citizenship, a wife, and 2 kids later; and I’m still a customer of Colin’s.

Am going to miss your store man. And the torrent talks.

Best of luck. I will drop by before end March.

That is so sad….This is so sad..

If it so happens you don’t clear stock, do we get stuff for free? Hahaha.

    It’s been a great 6 years or so… It’s like that a Spider-man reboot all of a sudden.
